A number of major poker tournaments took place over the last week around the world. Here is a review of four poker events that took place or are currently taking place throughout the last seven days.

WPT UK Title goes to Matas Cimbolas

Lithuanian poker player Matas Cimbolas was the chip leader when he entered the final table of the WPT UK Main Event in the English city of Nottingham.

However, it was a lead he eventually lost as fellow final tablist Ben Warrington went on a rampage, having eliminated all other players at the final table to put him and Cimbolas in the heads-up play.

Warrington had all of the momentum when the event went heads-up, but that did not seem to faze Cimbolas as he eventually doubled up, which set the stage for a comeback and eventually the win.

Cimbolas took home £200,000 for claiming the top spot at the WPT UK Main Event and it appears that the sky’s the limit for the 21-years-young Lithuanian poker shark.

Jonathan Jaffe Claims Victory at the WPT Montreal Main Event

Jaffe’s path to victory at the WPT Montreal was similar to that of Cimbolas in that he was the chip leader going into the final table.

However, Jaffe’s momentum continued on at the final table as he eliminated all but one player en route to taking out the event in the eastern Canadian city.

The American won US$409,656 for his stellar play at the event, which was the latest of a series of accolades throughout Jaffe’s poker career, which includes 16 WSOP in-the-money finishes.

Ruben Visser Wins 2014 Master Classics of Poker Main Event

The final day of the 2014 Main Event in the Dutch city of Amsterdam got off to a smashing start when Noah Boyken was eliminated after the very first hand of the day.

The final table got underway not long after. With previous MCOP winners Ole Schemion and David Boyaciyan part of the last ten, play was set to be highly competitive.

Highly competitive was exactly what it was as all players played hard for the top prize. Boyaciyan and Ruben Visser were the last two players in the event and both had roughly equal chip stacks when play began.

While it threatened to be a long night for the two players, heads-up play lasted just two hands as Visser won big after the first hand before he finished Boyaciyan off straight after.

Visser is €225,000 richer for winning the event, which is the second highest live poker tournament cash prize of the Dutchman’s professional career.

Minh Nguyen the Man at the APPT Auckland

Nguyen had the perfect run in this year’s Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Auckland in the New Zealand city.

He had a massive chip lead going into the final table and no one was able to stop him as he won the Main Event and its NZ$111,600 cash prize.

Thomas Ward did come close, though, eventually snatching the chip lead from the Australia after the two of them went into the heads-up play.

He was unable to get the job done, however, as Minh Nguyen came back to reclaim the lead and eliminate Ward to take out the APPT Auckland Main Event.
